Wet Seal, Hallmark, San Francisco Music Box, & Marvel

If you haven't been picking up The Wonderful Wizard of Oz comic series from Marvel you're doing yourself a GREAT disservice! One of the best adaptations of Baum's story in my opinion and Skottie Young's renderings of the characters are SO worth the price of admission! Issue 8 is definately worth it for the illustrations of the Tin Man brushing the lion's mane, Dorothy's tearful goodbye to her Ozian companions, and the joyful reunion with Aunt Em. A hardcover edition will be published this fall.

Not available on the website anymore, but check your local Wet Seal stores. These will be teen sized. The ruby slippers have rhinestone detailing. Priced around $15.50

Hallmark 2009 Inside reads: No Matter how near, no matter how far, these wishes will find you wherever you are! Have a Happy One! The scanner doesn't capture how pretty this card really is. The writing on the front is orange foil and the Wicked Witch, Nikko, and crystal ball are glossy. The characters are outlined in purple. I'd love to see more original art on these cards but at least they are putting in some fine details sometimes!

Don't wait too long to add this amazing piece to your collection! It's very limited and this piece drew the most excitement at gift shows. Karen Owens has this and other 2009 pieces in stock now!

August Updates

Japanese clothing company Uniqlo has several Oz shirts. There appears to be one shop in the United States in New York City. However, I don't know at this time if they are selling the Oz line.

Enlarge photo to see detail on Uniqlo shirts

Jim Whitcomb found this adorable shirt on eBay. I don't know where it can be found yet, but the usual suspects are Kohls and Target.

I'm sorry I don't have a larger photo at this time because the new Dorothy/Scarecrow figurine from Lenox is just beautiful!!!! Shown below is the Tin Man ornament. Both are new for 2009.
You can pre-order both pieces from
Karen Owens
Radko Muffy Vanderbear Wizard of Paws ornament Should retail in the $40 - $45 range
Cute glass ornament found by Jim Whitcomb on eBay. Hopefully it can be found in stores.

Mattel Wicked Witch of the East Barbie is now shipping! She 'plays' Ding Dong the Witch is Dead and she's packaged in a beautiful 70th anniversary box with the Gale farmhouse in the background. This doll has been misrepresented on Toys R' Us's website as an exclusive. IT IS NOT A TRU EXCLUSIVE. Something you may want to consider when purchasing. You can order here or anywhere else that carries The Wizard of Oz Barbies
A separate Wizard of Oz Sing- A -Long disc will be sold in the UK.

Warner Brothers Home Video recently announced a Wizard of Oz one disc. It has the same cover as the two disc so check your packaging carefully when you purchase.
San Francisco Music Box - Glinda with wand waterglobe and Wicked Witch with broom waterglobe have been cancelled. The Wizard of Oz animated box is delayed until next year.
Fairies of Oz by Jasmine Becket-Griffith Tin Girl is now shipping.

Wizard of Oz 70th Annivesary Wall Decor Art Collection First piece in the series, Dorothy, is now shipping
Stone Arch Books just released their Wizard of Oz graphic novel.

Hallmark Cards has a new Halloween card this year. It's purple with the Wicked Witch and Nikko with Dorothy in the crystal ball. Should be in the Across the Miles section and it's $1.99. Last year's Wicked Witch Halloween card and the Wicked Witch card with sound from the past two years are also still available.

There's Oz news just about every day right now. Check back for frequent updates!
Thanks to Jim Whitcomb, Karen Owens, and Lou Berrillo for the constant updates!

Barnes and Noble Update

Mark your calendars! The official launch for the Barnes and Noble Wizard of Oz table and smaller Wicked table is September 15th but some stores may set up a few days early. Hopefully, the book pictured below will be in stock for people heading to the Chesterton Oz Fest on the 18th. I know author John Fricke would be delighted to autograph these beauties.

In addition to the book, some dolls and exclusive puzzles were listed on Barnes and Noble's website. The puzzles have been removed but it's expected they'll be back up soon. You can see the dolls and one of the new Wicked calendars here. And here's a photo of last year's Wicked table display. I'm hoping Oz gets the same treatment this year.

Thanks to Lou Berrillo for the heads up!

70th Anniversary Auction

The 70th anniversary celebration is really ramping up with the recent announcement of a one night only showing of the Wizard of Oz in high definition in 440 movie theaters across the country on September 23. Today The Wizard of Oz 70th Anniversary Ruby Slipper Auction was formally announced to the public. The online auction commences September 10 and closes September 24. The stars of the auction are The Ruby Slipper Collection, original design sketches, and select pieces from the Inspirations of Oz Fine Art Collection. In addition, a prestigious doll company will be donating a one of a kind doll and it is probable other Oz licensees will be taking part. Proceeds benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation. Keep watching the official auction site for more details.
