2014 Tonner Collector's Convention

In honor of the 75th Anniversary of the Movie The Wizard of Oz, the Tonner Collectors Convention is happy to announce a special guest speaker to present a free seminar during the convention:  world famous John Fricke!

Presenting...

OVER THE RAINBOW!

An Illustrated "Tour" of the Making of MGM's Wonderful
The Wizard of Oz
Now Celebrating its 75th Anniversary!

Your guide is John Fricke, the world's preeminent Oz and Judy Garland historian. His seven books on those topics have sold more than a quarter-million copies. He's the recipient of two television Emmy Awards as co-producer and co-writer of Garland documentaries for PBS and the A&E cable network, and a Grammy nominee for his liner notes for Capitol's 25th Anniversary Garland retrospective on CD.

John has served as producer and spokesman for MGM, Turner Entertainment, and Warner Bros. for their Oz and Garland home video projects. In 2002, he co-hosted Judy's 90th birthday telecasts on Turner Classic Movies with Robert Osborne; just last month, he was a special presenter at the annual TCM film festival in Hollywood. John also appears in the new documentary about The Making of The Wizard of Oz, included in the Oz 75th anniversary DVD sets and now in stores. He delivers the commentary track on that Oz DVD, as well as on seven other Garland DVD releases.

The latest Fricke book, The Wonderful World of Oz: An Illustrated History of the American Classic, was published in November, in conjunction with the exhibition of that title at The Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, Maine. The book contains over three hundred illustrations drawn from more than 50,000 items in the Willard Carroll/Tom Wilhite Collection -- the largest in the world.

But, a pop culture historian put it best -- and most simply -- a few years ago when he wrote,

"Fricke is to Oz what Baskin is to Robbins."

John's presentation for Tonner goes behind-the-camera and behind-the-scenes, showing the amazing (and often bizarre) costume, make-up, and casting process that almost inconceivably led to the motion picture that's been seen by more people than any other in history.
