on THE WIZARD OF OZ™ Train Ride This Spring

FRENCH LICK, IN – Warner Bros. Consumer Products, Rail Events Inc., and the French Lick Scenic Railway are proud to announce the debut of  THE WIZARD OF OZ™ Train Ride beginning March 23. Licensed by the same team that brought you THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride, the two and a half-hour round trip  journey will retell the story of the beloved movie, The Wizard of Oz, on board a real train.   The journey begins in Munchkinland where DOROTHY™ meets GLINDA THE GOOD WITCH™, who suggests she take a train that follows the YELLOW BRICK ROAD™ to see if the WIZARD OF OZ™ could help her find a way back to Kansas. Guests will board the train with Dorothy and several of her special friends as they travel down the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City.

Along the way, you’ll enjoy refreshments and live on board entertainment featuring Dorothy, SCARECROW™, TIN MAN™, and COWARDLY LION™ set to the sounds of the motion picture. Help them defeat the WICKED WITCH OF THE WEST™ before arriving at the Emerald City and experiencing the thrill of meeting THE GREAT AND POWERFUL OZ™ himself during a live stage show. You’ll then return to Munchkinland with the characters on board the train and available for photos. Children will receive a special gift for helping Dorothy on her unforgettable journey!

The adventure begins March 23 and runs through April 17 on select dates. Exact dates and excursion times are available by calling 1-800-74-TRAIN, or by visiting www.frenchlickscenicrailway.org. Toy Fair 2016 Round 2 Polar Lights Witch model and Madame Alexander

A bit quiet at Toy Fair this year as far as Oz is concerned but we're grateful to see any Oz nonetheless.

First up is the Polar Lights Wicked Witch of the West Resin Figure Model Kit.  It's been a long time coming and I still don't have a definite release date, but it looks like it's going to be totally worth the wait if the newly designed packaging is any indication.  Check with your local hobby and model shops for availability and pricing.

Next up we have the new Glinda and Dorothy with Toto from Madame Alexander.  Super pretty girls!! During Toy Fair Alexander was still unsure if this was the Toto size they were going to release ultimately. To which I saw PLEASE DON'T CHANGE HIM. He's perfect!!  It's nice to see a suitable Toto. Too many companies skimp on our favorite cairn terrier.  Glinda and Dorothy are the 18 doll size that has become so popular.  They have an SRP of $89.95.

Big Thank you to Dave McKroffterson for taking time out of his busy Toy Fair weekend to take pics for the Curiozity Corner!!!

R. John Wright Cowardly Lion

I wish I could come up with better adjectives to describe this Lion.  Right now all I can say is WOW!!!!!   I really think in the history of Wizard of Oz collectibles based on the film this is one of, if not the best, representations of the Cowardly Lion.  He has the sweetest, kindest face I've ever seen on a Lion collectible.  I hesitate to even call these dolls anymore.  They are three-dimensional works of out.  The painstaking patience and study that went into producing these is unimaginable to me.  R. John Wright is another artist that has obvious veneration for The Wizard of Oz. He really must be a wonderful wizard to create a collection like that!!  R. John Wright has been featured on many magazine covers and reserved  numerous lauds from the doll community and deservedly so.

The Cowardly Lion is due out this Summer.  He stands 17 inches tall.  He is all felt and fully jointed.  He'll be produced at R. John Wright's workshop in Vermont.  Only 250 will be made. He is $1575.00

Please see this page for more details and keep an eye out for production photos.  It will be amazing to get a taste of the process that brings these characters to life.

Here's the gang behind the scenes getting their glamour shots. I SO can't wait to see the final result.  The main characters all together are just breathtaking!!  Courtesy of R. John Wright.

Mondo Poster Sale Tomorrow 2/18

BEAUTIFUL new Mondo poster by Anne Benjamin.
24" by 36"
Edition of 250
$50

Poster will go on sale at a random time tomorrow.  Follow Mondo on Twitter for sale announcement.  This is Mondo's fourth Oz release and they just keep getting better and better.

I have to say the more I look at this, the more I love it and I loved it at first sight.  I literally gasped.  I love the chosen scene, one of the best from the movie.   The interpretation of the characters is original, yet true.  Toto is just darling.  And I love there is so much purple. I don't get a lot of purple in Oz collectibles so when my favorite color is included, I'm thrilled!  Mondo has done an incredible job with the artist selection for their series of Oz posters.  They pick talent, but also the artists seem to have a respect for the property.  It's always appreciated when a licensee shows such reverence for a property.
