Hallmark 2015 Itty Bittys Toto and Winged Monkey

Coming August 2015!!!!!
If Hallmark stays on the current schedule you'll want to start looking the last week of July.  These are both limited edition like the Wicked Witch and Glinda.  The Wicked Witch and Glinda disappeared from stores VERY quickly!  I expect no less for the Winged Monkey and Toto.
$6.95 each.

And see this previous entry for a plush Tin Man coming soon for Valentine's Day 2015:

Ashton Drake Glinda Doll

Ashton Drake recently released their Glinda doll as part of their continuing Oz series.  The series includes Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, the Wicked Witch of the West, the Cowardly Lion, and Glinda.

For some reason only Dorothy and the Wicked Witch are shown on www.ashtondrake.com/ and www.bradfordexchange.com   If you want the whole series you can start with Dorothy and subscribe.

The dolls retail around $130 plus shipping.  Glinda is for sale now on eBay through a Canadian seller.  The same seller also has the Cowardly Lion.

Garlands for Judy Holiday Gift Guide

Undoubtedly one of the main attractions to the Wizard of Oz is the gorgeous, talented Judy Garland. Forty-five years after her passing and she still remains one of the greatest entertainers the world has ever known and continues to draw legions of fans.  The MGM Wizard of Oz film would not exist without her. For that, we could never possibly repay her.  All that can be done is to keep her legacy alive for future generations.  One of those carrying the torch is Scott Brogan.  He runs the Judy Room website and Facebook pages.  One of his regular features is the Garland for Judy newsletter which is a really beautiful, sumptuous labor of love.  And they are all downloadable for free.  Judy Garland fans will love Scott's amazing work.  Scott recently posted the 2014 Holiday Gift Guide.  Great to print out and leave around the house for hints!  I am very proud to say in this issue Scott has given my blog a whole page!  I can not put into words what Oz and Judy Garland mean to me and it feels incredible to be featured in his latest endeavor.
Thank you Scott!!

Please see the links for below for Judy Room sections on this newsletter, past newsletters, and The Wizard of Oz.

Ruby Slippers Glass Ornament

Hallmark has released a third Ruby Slippers ornament this year.  Number 3 is blown glass and available in a box at Barnes and Noble for $12.95 or $8.00 at Target with only a hang tag.

Hallmark also released a set of porcelain Ruby Slippers in October that are only available at Hallmark Gold Crown Stores for $17.95.  A resin ornament is available for around $7.99 at Toys R Us, Kohls, Walmart, Kmart,  and regional stores that carry Hallmark product.

Wizard of Oz Anniversary Magazines

Two magazines or bookazines rather, have been released in acknowledgement of the 75th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz. For those that aren't familiar, bookazines are more than magazines, but not quite books.  They are usually printed on heavier stock than average magazines and they have beautiful glossy pages.  I love that two American institutions such as Reader's Digest and CBS have chosen to honor Oz in such a way.  As much as I enjoy the writings of the Oz experts, it's nice to see points of view from authors other than the usual suspects. They're on newsstands everywhere.

The CBS issue is about 100 pages long and it's retail price is $9.99.  It'll be on sale until January 5, 2015.  CBS delves into a little general Oz history.  There's chapters on director Victor Fleming, the cast, the making of the movie,  the legacy of Oz which goes into the annual showings of The Wizard of Oz on CBS, and the Oz museum featuring the collections of Willard Carroll and Tom Whilhite.

Reader's Digest is also about 100 pages and it's retail is $10.99. It's on sale until December 29.  Like it's CBS counterpart Reader's Digest features chapters on the cast of The Wizard of Oz, but here there's bonus points for including a section on Toto.  Also included are pages on costume designer Adrian, the ruby slippers,  Oz since the 1939 movie, and some history with the Macy's parade.

For the life of me, I don't know why they didn't do features on collecting and the 75th anniversary items. There are a great many people that enjoy Oz as a movie and leave it at that, and that's perfectly fine, but for others of us, a big part of Oz is collecting. The Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind are the two most collected films and yet hardly anyone addresses that. That nitpick aside, I do highly recommend them both for Oz fans.  They offer enough to keep both the seasoned and budding aficionados happy.
