Cardew Design

Since 1991, Cardew Design has created unique tea ware, gift ware, and dinnerware to suit the discriminating collector. The gorgeous new Wizard of Oz line has been met with much enthusiasm and demand is high already. Stock is expected by the end of June. It's possible the first shipments may sell out quickly and it's no wonder. It's refreshing to see the characters represented in the original artwork of Paul Cardew. Please enlarge photos for detail. If this line proves successful there will be additions to look forward to in 2012. You may email ahead of time to reserve pieces direct from Cardew Design or you can reserve with Karen Owens. Please visit the Cardew Design website to see more pieces.

Coloring Books!!

I love to see coloring books! Ones licensed for the movie seem very few and far between. The last ones I can remember are from 1989. The downside is these are very hard to find. For whatever reason, they seem concentrated in the Chicago area. If you can find them, they're only a $1. These were first posted on the Facebook group Wizard of Oz Collectors United by group founder Walter Krueger. Join up if you enjoy ozzy chit chat!

Dorothy of Oz by IDW Publishing

Wondercon attendees were given a glimpse into the new Dorothy of Oz film with the limited edition debut of a five part comic series by IDW Publishing. The comics serve as a prologue detailing events between the end of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz to the beginning of the Dorothy.

The movie is based on the first of many marvelous new adventures created by L. Frank Baum's great-grandson Roger Baum. Dorothy is about a malevolent jester wrecking havoc on the land of Oz and Dorothy & Toto must return to put an end to his misdeeds.

The movie won't be released until next year but you can follow the film's progress on the official Dorothy of Oz site and Facebook page.

Dorothy of Oz is also regularly discussed on the International Wizard of Oz Club Forum.

More information about forthcoming comics (and hopefully other merchandise!) will be posted here as it becomes available.

Over the Rainbow Ginny

The Jersey Shore Doll Club celebrated The Wizard of Oz with their Over the Rainbow Luncheon November 7, 2010. Guest speaker Jerry Chadwick gave an informational talk about The Wizard of Oz and displayed some of her Oz collection. The Vogue Doll Company made the Over the Rainbow Ginny souvenir doll especially for the Jersey Shore Doll Club event. The Vogue Doll Company dates back to the 1920s, but Ginny made her official debut in 1948. She was sculpted by noted doll designer Bernard Lipfert who is best known to Oz fans for sculpting the 1939 Judy Garland as Dorothy doll for Ideal. Despite many ups and downs and the current trend of high end fashion dolls, Ginny has withstood the test of time and she is still a much beloved doll today. Ginny stands at 8 inches. Her costume is similar to the frock designed in 1938. Her dark brown hair isn't exactly like Judy Garland's but it is braided in typical Dorothy fashion. She comes with a black plush dog. Only 100 dolls were made and at $40.00 (plus shipping), Over the Rainbow Ginny is an inexpensive quality doll that would make a darling addition to any Oz or doll collection. Please contact Jersey Shore Doll Club president Rachel Martirano at alex514329@aol.com to order.

First Edition Book Collection with Bookends

Who could've imagined L. Frank Baum's "wonder tale" about a lost little girl and her dog trying to find their way home would change American Children's literature and spawn a film that became a cultural phenomenon? Almost 111 years later, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz remains a beloved classic the world over.

Charles Winthrope & Sons has published Baum's entire Oz series as they originally appeared in the 1900s. Available exclusively from The Bradford Exchange Press, each book if faithfully reproduced right down to the full color plates and typographical errors. The collection is encased in new dust covers illustrating the beautiful Oz landscape. Bookends of Oz's central characters create a stunning display when combined with the lovely volumes.

Hallmark 2011 Ornaments Sneak Peek and More........

Three new ornaments this year. The Wicked Witch, Glinda, and a Poppyfield Magic Ornament. No photo available yet for the magic ornament but it shows Dorothy succumbing to the poppies. Mark your calendars for the Keepsake Ornament Premiere July 16 - 17.

Hallmark is branching out into an extensive Oz everyday/giftware this year. Ruby Slippers wine bottle holder, wine bottle opener, glass charms, bottle bags, ruby slippers w/striped stockings cheese spreader, double coffee mugs, trivets, napkins, plates, and more. I hear these items are mostly good witch/bad witch themed. Usually these items come out during premiere but it's thought they may be out sooner. They will be available at Hallmark Gold Crown stores.
